Change oil on a scooter in less than 5 minutes!

When you prepare to change oil on a scooter, keep a few things in mind. First, as you may very well know, this is the single most important thing you can do as part of your scooter maintenance. If not done properly and on time, you can seriously damage the scooter's engine. Make sure you use a good quality 15w40 oil. Make the first change immediatley. Change it about every 1000 miles thereafter.

This video gives a good understanding of the basic oil change. This is being done on an old China made scooter. There are a couple of pointers that I would like to add. After the oil has finished draining, gently kick the kick starter a couple of times to flush out any remaining oil. Also, when replacing the spring and filter, take note of the spring. It is funnel shaped. The large side will contain the filter. The smaller side of the spring goes into the drain plug cap.

This video is only for the engine oil change. Check my other videos for the scooter gear oil change as well. Also, China ATV oil changes will be similar to this, but likely without the spring and filter.

Please also remember to place the scooter on it's center stand and not the side stand. When you change oil on a scooter on the side stand, all of the oil does not drain and it is very hard to get an accurate reading on the dipstick. Replace the dipstick without screwing it in to check the amount of oil. If it is in the acceptable range without screwing it in, it will be perfect when it is screwed in.
